Last fall I attended the 2009 Student Career Forum, an event hosted by the Direct Marketing Education Foundation. Even though it was my first DMEF convention, it allowed me to make connections with marketing professionals, which in turn led to my current internship.

“In the right place and the right time”

Ultimately, being in the right place at the right time allowed me to participate in an exceptional educational experience. I believe that DMEF has the ability to create ‘right time right place’ scenarios for others as well.

Therefore, by staying in touch with DMEF through our blog, Facebook, and Twitter, you can be a part of DMEF conferences and conventions. This will lead to networking contacts and hopefully, a secure future with a marketing organization you admire.

In fact, DMEF and MERKLE are partnering to offer 30 select college students an exceptional opportunity to be apart of a weeklong workshop.

IMIX

The I-MIX Program (Interactive Marketing Immersion Xperience) is designed for juniors and seniors who are considering a career in marketing. After completing this program, students will have a decided edge in securing a job in this competitive market.

Admission to this program is highly selective. The program is open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents and international students. The 2010 program will begin on Monday, August 2^nd and end on Friday, August 6^th.

Background (Mini Bio):

My father is an assistant attorney general for the state of Maryland and my mother is a professor of marketing at George Washington University.

My previous internship was with Saturday Night Live (NYC) in post and online production and from the contacts I made in NY I have discovered a fantastic resource – the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation, or DMEF.

I am now a social media intern for DMEF, given the prestigious title as a Community Manager. By no means do I call my self a social media expert; however I see the potential that this area has and I enjoy being a part of this expanding world.

As is with any job you need to be active and that’s all I ask of you. I encourage you to take that extra step: use your marketing abilities, including social networking, digital, multi-channel outreach. Be persistent and do not give up.

I found as a student the entire world is accessible.
